Hopee Birthday!
I had a simple, quiet but blessed birthday!
1. The stormy weather! Strong winds + mild to moderate rains are my favourite type of weather. Bed weather makes me want to stay snuggled up in bed but makes me want to stay stuck at work as well. It’s unfortunate though that flooding and all that bad stuff come with this type of weather.

Ophthalmology Week 1
Despite the fact that I miss ORL-HNS so much, I must say I find Ophthalmology fairly enjoyable as well. The sheer quantity of cases we see at the PGH Ophthalmology Department provides us with the perfect opportunity to learn a lot about eye problems and diseases of vision.

Motorcycle vs. _______
Of the twenty head and neck consults we handled yesterday for my ER duty with ORL-HNS, seven were multiple injuries secondary to vehicular accidents. Of those seven, six involved a motorcycle passenger. Of those six, none was wearing a helmet.
And of those six, four were intoxicated. One of those who weren’t was a kid.
It’s enraging how irresponsible these folks can be. They purchase...

The Emmy nominations are out and Community got no mention for major awards whatsoever. Not that it’s even a surprise; they’ve always got the snub anyway. At least Parks and Rec, Nurse Jackie and 30 Rock (Tina Fey!) are in the running. So are HBO’s new shows Veep and Girls (hooray!)
I mean Modern Family is all right, but come on - four nominations for supporting actor alone?...

Happy Day
Random conversations with best friends over French fries and with an on-duty blockmate at the callroom made my day today.
That’s on top of the happiest feeling after waking up to your own bed because you came home the previous day to your house to be welcomed by a feast shared with the family you haven’t seen in a long time.

Thoughts After Ward Duty
Personally, I prefer the ER. I like action, the adrenaline rush, the rapid history-taking and PEs, the walking to-and-fro to attend to referrals and to shadow the residents while they do their thing, to walk miles and miles to get lab results or conduct patients and whatnot (exercise while you work - it’s amazing!). And the best part is, I get to learn a lot given the variety of cases we go...
